What the table can’t tell you

The Algarveis the all-rounder: dramatic golden coastline, a deep stack of family attractions, short flights and mild, dry Junes. Its sea is the catalogue’s coolest comfort-wise in early summer, and the prettiest coves can come with steps and cliff paths that prams notice.

Fuerteventura trades drama for reliability: the dependable dry warmth, huge dune beaches and a winter season nowhere else in the catalogue can offer. The water stays Atlantic-fresh into summer, the trade winds are part of the deal, and the resorts are purpose-built rather than storied.

The Venetian Rivierais the surprise package for June: the warmest early summer sea we score, table-flat promenades, and Venice 40 minutes away for the day trip. It’s a lively strip rather than a sleepy village, it hibernates outside the season, and its famous teen scene is nightlife, which our family-venue rubric deliberately doesn’t count.
